Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy is a more recently developed treatment modality designed to treat and manage even the most stubborn of soft musculoskeletal problems such as tennis elbow, achilles tendinopathy and plantar fasciitis.

Read below to understand how it works!

What are Shockwaves?

Shockwaves are defined as mechanical  acoustic waves characterised by propagating disturbance faster than the local speed of sound of the medium it is travelling through.

Sounds complicated...here is a real life example:

Imagine a plane flying at high speed breaks the sound barrier, but you hear it and your bedroom window cracks as a result, even though you're 15 miles away...

Shockwave therapy works on a similar principle but a much smaller scale.

How does Shockwave Therapy work?

1 - Lowers the concentration of pain-causing chemicals in the target tissue, bringing on pain relief.

2 - Blocks the development of nerve-related inflammation which plays a role in healing tendinopathies.

3 -  Activates primary muscle cells to repair damaged muscle fibres and increases the expression of cellular growth factors.
